Happy Spring

I love spring! It's the "renaissance" season--a time of re-birth and re-commitment to life, love and happiness. It's the season of "fresh starts" and "clean slates," a time to re-define one's goals, vision and purpose. Today I choose to be humble, compassionate, kind and confident. I choose to live a life of joy and intention. I choose sunshine, fresh air and flowers.

"...if we had no winter, spring would not be so pleasant. If we had no taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." --Anne Bradstreet

"...spring is the sun shining on the rain...and the rain falling on the sunshine." --The Secret Garden

"...that is one good thing about this world. There are always sure to be more springs." --L.M. Montgomery

"...the beautiful spring came; and when nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also."  Harriet Ann Jacobs

The Creative Petunia: Sunshine + Blooms

Unseasonably warm weather around the USA {and always here in the sunshine state!} has me eagerly anticipating the soon-to-be months of spring and summer! I recently discovered Fabric.com, and this site is a treasure trove of ideas to bring warmth and bold florals inside, outside + everywhere in between! Redecorate your pool house, start a nautical-themed project, design summer dresses for the family and more. The possibilities are endless!

Shop all prints here, or check out my favorites below.

This cream print brings a bohemian vibe to any project. Sew leggings, jumpers, aprons and more with the nature-inspired fabric. It’s 95% cotton and 5% spandex, making it a little stretchy for additional comfort.

This lightweight cotton jersey knit fabric is perfect for t-shirts, summer lounge shorts, leggings, children’s clothes and more. Use this print to create a mother-daughter look that’s perfect for summertime beach photos.

This bright floral fabric has hints of lime, magenta, white and peach on a teal background. The vibrant fabric is perfect for outdoor cushions or a beach cover up.

Bring green, blue, pink, hot orange, red and maroon into your next quilting or DIY project. The fabric is lightweight, 100% cotton and can be machine-washed in cold water, making it a good choice for blankets or apparel projects.

Labels We Love: Soia + Kyo

Sport simple, luxurious outerwear this season with new looks from SOIA & KYO.  I recently stumbled upon this brand and was highly impressed by the feel and quality {and chic designs!} of each coat. They are ideal for all seasons--especially for areas of the country still struggling with that transition from full-blown winter to the beauty {and sunshine!} of spring.

The Montreal-based brand creates masterful outerwear with a contemporary yet timeless feel. A brand for both guys + gals, here are some of my favorites from their newest collection {and bonus news: FREE shipping!}

Pictured in Oatmeal, this trench is water-repellent and made from stretch cotton — perfect for a rainy day. Metallic accents give the coat a modern feel and the over-sized hood provides a dramatic touch and is big enough to be functional on drizzly afternoons.

This bomber-style jacket is a classic look for any occasion this spring. The dropped shoulder gives it a relaxed feel, making it perfect for running errands or catching a weekend game. The jacket also comes in rose {a great color for this time of year!} and black.

The RYLEE leather jacket is versatile and slimming. Wear it as a modern take on the traditional blazer for your next job interview or pair it with jeans and a v-neck for a clean, sleek look. The RYLEE comes in stone and black.

SOIA & KYO’s KATHRYN vest is a must-have for anyone that loves to layer looks, but doesn’t want to "turn up the heat" in the process. The design features large lapels, a high-low hemline and side slits. It’s available in rose, pictured here, and black.

 Happy Weekend, lovelies!

Petunia Picks: The March Edit

When I think of March, I think of luck, the color green and the many wonderful promises of spring {my favorite season!} I love incorporating these thoughts into my style--a small, but sweet, tribute to the month and all it represents.

With March being the month of St. Patrick, you can't go wrong in this super cute lucky hoodie from Ily Couture. Ideal over your favorite skinny jeans, it's the perfect tribute! I also love the sweatshirt and this super adorable style for your little one.

This clover charm bracelet from Alex + Ani represents blessing, fortune and prosperity--something I wish not only for myself and my family, but for all of you as well! I also love supporting great causes through style, and this Save The Sea Turtles bracelet from Pura Vida is the perfect accessory for March.

I find it fun to switch phone cases from month to month--a reset and refresh for an item you see ten times {plus!} daily! This floral iPhone case by Sonix fits my theme perfectly {a pop of yellow--all the better!}

And the month wouldn't be complete without a green {oh-so-chic!} tote to set the mood. The Tory Burch Gemini Tote, with it's traditional link motif, is the perfect place to store some of that gold you received from the pot at the end of the rainbow. ; )

May your days be blessed with luck and love!

Dear Black Girl

Words cannot begin to express just how blessed I am to call Cassandra Pryor my friend. This beautiful woman is the heart and soul behind "Dear Black Girl" and she is on a mission to bring hope, acceptance and love to young girls the world over.

I am in awe daily at how selfless and giving she is--whether it's volunteering in her community or just texting me a random sentence of inspiration and kindness to brighten my day--she is one of the most genuine spirits you'll ever know.

But wait...there's more! She's also the author of this lovely journal {that I personally believe should be on every little girl's book shelf, every museum and foundation bookstore, every school library...well, everywhere!} Full of quotes and letters {+ a cover illustration that just makes me melt!}--this is the perfect gift for a daughter, sister or friend.

Thank you, Cassandra, for making this world a better place and reminding us all that character, confidence and class are so important. {and thank you "Auntie Ellen" for bringing us together!} Visit dearblackgirl.com to purchase the journal, Ellen TV, or Go Fund Me--and if you have any special requests, want a signed copy, etc.--then contact me and we'll make it happen!

Love you, Cassandra--you are a true QUEEN! xx

Pop Sugar Must Have: The January Edit

January is the perfect month to begin a new--cleansing your mind, body and soul in preparation for a fabulous year and a fresh start. I am proud to partner with Pop Sugar Must Have and bring you my opinion on this month's subscription box of amazingly wonderful goodies.

I have subscribed to different brands and programs over the years, and this particular box really exceeded my expectations when it came to quality and variety. This month featured products sure to motivate and inspire the best 2017 ever!

Here's the rundown...

1. The Fresh A Peel Multi Acid Resurfacing Peel by Goldfaden, MD is beyond the BEST at-home {and in-office!} peel I've ever used. Many of you might not know this, but for the past five years I have suffered from melasma, which is a discoloration of the skin that can give you dark spots similar to sun spots. It can come from a combination of hormones, medication, environment + genetics, and it's darn stubborn to try and get rid of {just Google Brooke Burke and you'll understand the struggle!} I have tried lasers, creams, $$$ peels from plastic surgeons and dermatologists and the list goes on--never-ending and frustrating! Luckily, I use excellent makeup, but being a woman who loves Florida, the sun and a natural look--I despise having to go through that routine daily. This peel, in the short-term, is the answer I've been waiting for! Just a small dab of gel all over your face for 1-3 minutes...2-3 times a week...has the power to remove dead skin cells, which have given me a softer and brighter complexion. I also love that it is a natural skin care line that doesn't burn of irritate like other peels have. It rejuvenates the skin from the inside out, and also helps significantly with fine lines and wrinkles, so it's an ideal alternative to pediatric doses of Botox.

2. It's always nice to be able to re-purpose your paper products, which is why I adore the concept of May Designs Desk Calendar + Notecards. These beautiful designs come with a stand, ideal to place on your desk at home or in the office. I even thought this would be a lovely gift for a teacher! Not only can you monitor the month and date amidst such beautiful hand-painted florals, but you can also flip them over when the month ends and cut along the dotted lines to turn each page into a note for someone special. Win-win!

3. You can tell by my photos that I have A LOT of hair. I get it trimmed, thinned and everything in between {thanks to The Salon by Rebecca Juarez--if you're in the Disney area--she's the BEST!} which is why this Hair Wrap Towel by Daily Concepts was a life-saver. It has special microfibers that make frizz a thing of the past, as well as helping to reduce fly-aways, blow-dry time, etc. It comes with a reusable pouch perfect for the gym + vacation.

4. Everyone that's into yoga or any workout on a mat can attest to being in a position when it's sometimes hard to grip the mat and stay still and focused. The eQua Mat Towel from Manduka eliminates this problem with its absorbent, quick-drying {and slip-resistant!} towel that will hold you in place throughout the workout! The soft, suede-like feel makes for a quality {and stylish!} zen session.

5. Everyone loves a pick-me-up from time to time, and I believe in the power of the positive word, so the inclusion of Instant Happy Notes made me...well...happy! This little book of post-its give you 101 ways to put a smile on someone's face. Some of the messages include drawings and sayings like "Choose Happy Today," "Enjoy the Simple Things," and "Ten Second Vacation: Think About a Trip to the Beach!"

6. I have become something of a "tea connoisseur" recently, so this tin of Peppermint Tea from Dean + Deluca is very soothing, with added digestive benefits that will keep you calm and refreshed. I've heard through "the grapevine" that regular tea drinking can cause you to lose up to 10 lbs. in a week if you're on your game--something I should definitely look into! ; )

7. *THE BONUS*, This delicious candle from Glade in the scent of Coconut + Beach Woods--simply divine. It's soy-based and part of a new line of multilayered home fragrances, the perfect addition to your home on a cold winter day!

The best part of all is that readers of The Yellow Petunia can get $5 off their FIRST Must Have box by using the code SHOP5 at checkout {lucky you!}

Stay tuned for next month's edit, and if you already get the Must Have subscription--let me know your favorites!

Happy Tuesday. xx
